MarkWipe exists for one job: removing a small, fixed badge from media you own or are authorized to edit. This page says plainly what that includes and what it does not.
What MarkWipe is for
- Removing the generator badge from AI images you generated.
- Removing a camera or app timestamp from your own photo.
- Removing a logo you placed yourself on your own work.
- Cleaning a small fixed mark from footage or images you hold the rights to.
What MarkWipe is not for
Do not use MarkWipe to:
- Remove a watermark, credit, signature, or ownership mark from someone else's work — including to republish it, resell it, claim authorship, or pass it off as your own.
- Strip protection from stock photography or other licensed media in order to avoid paying for a licence. We do not support this use, we do not optimise for it, and we will not publish guidance for it.
- Remove marks in order to defeat a licensing requirement, attribution obligation, or contract term you are bound by.
- Process material that is unlawful, including child sexual abuse material.
- Create deceptive content — removing provenance or credit marks so that media appears to come from someone other than its actual source.
- Harass, defame, or infringe the rights of others.
Why we state this so directly
Removing a watermark from a file you own is an ordinary, legitimate edit — it is your picture. Removing one from someone else's work to bypass their rights is not, and in many places it is unlawful, including under provisions protecting copyright management information. Tools in this category often stay vague about the difference. We would rather be specific, because the distinction is the whole basis on which we operate.
How this is enforced
Candidly: because MarkWipe runs entirely in your browser and requires no account, we have no technical ability to inspect, monitor, or block what you process — we never see it. We are not claiming a moderation capability we do not have. What we can do is set these terms, decline to help with prohibited uses, refuse to publish content aimed at them, and act on rights-holder reports about this site. Responsibility for the files you process rests with you.
